Character

The German Shepherd Dog is one of the most adaptable, loyal, intelligent and trainable dogs in the world. Whether your want a family pet, a companion dog, a working dog or a disabled assistance dog, the German Shepherd Dog can do it all.

German Shepherd Dogs are intelligent, well-balanced and friendly dogs providing they are socialized from an early age. Their courage and loyalty are legendary. But German Shepherds need the company of people. Despite their occasional use as such, they are most certainly not a yard dog. As guard dogs they are superb, but as always, they need to work with people, not alone.

German Shepherds are exceptionally versatile, perfectly willing and able to adapt to their surroundings and situation. Bred as working dogs, they are athletic and energetic dogs capable of working all day without respite, but more than happy to lounge by the fire given the opportunity. They are more than happy to adapt to apartment life with the single-person owner, companion dog for the elderly and less able, providing they are given sufficient exercise.
